Sunset on Jekyll Island

If you are looking for a special way to celebrate Independence Day, check out Jekyll Island off the coast of Georgia! This charming island is the perfect place to enjoy the holiday with family and friends. From parades to mermaids to dazzling fireworks displays, the Jekyll Island area has everything you need for an exciting holiday getaway.

There are several events taking place over the holiday weekend through July 4th on Jekyll Island and the surrounding areas. Check out what’s happening!

July 4th Events

Nearby St. Simons Island is hosting several events throughout the weekend. The picturesque Pier Village will host two nights of live music, as well as the opportunity for kids to meet a mermaid or have a pirate makeover on July 3. Then July 4th kicks off with the July 4th 5k and 1 Mile Run, followed by a golf cart parade and Crafts in the Village, a local artists and maker’s market from 10am – 5pm. All events are family-friendly.

Brunswick’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July celebration is a great family event, with local food, live music and a parade starting at 4pm at Mary Ross Waterfront Park. The annual Old-Fashioned Games, including classic sack racing and hula hoop competitions, will bring out the kid in everyone. Since it’s a short drive over the bridge from Jekyll Island, you can make it to the festival and still make it back to Jekyll Island in time for the fireworks.

Wrap up your Independence Day celebrations with a spectacular fireworks show starting at 9:30pm on Jekyll Island. The fireworks display will take place over the water on the eastern side of the island. The best viewing locations will be at Great Dunes Beach Park and Oceanview Beach Park, where you can spread out a blanket on the sand or watch from the comfort of your vehicle. Come early to find a prime spot, as this event is very popular and can draw large crowds.

July 4th Activities

Although Jekyll Island always moves at a relaxed pace, visitors can expect larger crowds during summer, and should plan to book tours in advance. July is typically one of the warmest months on the island, with high humidity, plenty of sunshine and temperatures ranging from 75 – 90°(F). Plan on some of these popular activities to enjoy the warm temperatures and explore everything the island has to offer.
