Plan Your Perfect Jekyll Island Spring Break Vacation
If you’re thinking about planning a Spring Break vacation to Jekyll Island, you have the right idea! While cooler temperatures are still lingering around most of the country, Jekyll Island averages close to 70 degrees during the month of March. It’s perfect weather for walks on the beach, outdoor activities and fun for the whole family.
Jekyll Island Spring Break Activities
Spring Break is a great time to explore a number of kid-friend and family activities on Jekyll Island.
Hit the beach. For a relaxing beach day with the kids, head to Oceanview Beach Park or Great Dunes Beach Park, which both offer picnic shelters, play areas and beachside activities like bocce ball and sand volleyball. Families will also love exploring Driftwood Beach, where gnarled driftwood scattered along the beach is fun for kids to climb, and provides a perfect backdrop for memorable family photos. Be aware that the best time to visit Driftwood Beach is during an outgoing or low tide, so be sure to check the tide chart before you head over.
Hit the links. Spring is a great time to get out on one of the Jekyll Island golf courses. The 9-hole Great Dunes Course is a local favorite for families who love to golf together. For a kid-friendly option, Jekyll Island Mini Golf offers two putt-putt courses of different difficulty levels and is fun for the whole family.
Enjoy family-friendly activities. For a fun day in the water, the kids will love SummerWaves Water Park, with a variety of waterslides, splash zones and a wave pool. Taking a Dolphin Boat Tour is also a can’t-miss experience for families during Spring Break. Families with children interested in nature will find many opportunities to learn more about the local ecosystem and wildlife on Jekyll Island. Check out the kid-friendly kayak tours of the marshland environment at 4-H Tidelands Center, or head to the Georgia Sea Turtle Center to learn more about sea turtle conservation and rehabilitation through interactive exhibits and guided walks with local field biologists.
Explore Jekyll Island. Spring is a lovely season for families to rent bicycles to explore the Jekyll Island trail system, a 22-mile loop where you can ride by marshes, wildflowers, forests and spot local birds and wildlife. These paths also wind through the Historic District, where you can tour the historic cottages of wealthy industrialists from the early 20th century, as well as the beautiful grounds of the Jekyll Island Club. After returning your bike rental, hop on a trolley tour of the Historic District, or visit the Mosaic Museum to learn about the history of Jekyll Island, where there are child-friendly activities and exhibits as well.
Spring Weather & What to Pack
When you visit Jekyll Island in the spring, you can expect daytime highs in the low 70’s and evening lows in the 50s. You will find plenty of sunshine, so bring your sunglasses and be sure to pack multiple layers for your trip to accommodate the varying temperatures. You could be in shorts in the middle of the day, but you’ll want to have warmer clothes for the mornings and evenings as you cozy up in your Jekyll Island vacation rental, or sit and watch the sunset.
